The Manchester Public Library is pleased to host Manchester native Larissa Babij to speak about her experiences during Russia’s war on Ukraine in “At Home in War: Stories from a Ukrainian-American in Ukraine”.
Babij, a Ukrainian-American translator, writer and dancer, grew up in Manchester in a Ukrainian-American family. Curious to learn more about her ancestral home, she moved to Kyiv in 2005, and has been living in Ukraine ever since. On February 24, 2022, as the Russian army was advancing on her home city, she fled westward with millions of other Ukrainians but did not cross the border. Babij will read from “A Kind of Refugee”, her ongoing record of life in Ukraine at war, and answer questions about her experiences fleeing home, coordinating medical aid, and supporting the Ukrainian military’s efforts to fight smarter. A selection of recent photo journalism from the war will also be on display at this event.
No registration is required for this free program.
