Celebrating the 200th birthday of Hartford-born Frederick Law Olmsted (1822-1903), we’ll stroll along Hartford Road to see two projects coordinated by the Olmsted firm: a red sandstone bridge over a dry brook, and the grounds of the former Anne Cheney mansion. Free. Park at Fuss & O’Neill, 146 Hartford Road, Manchester. Town historian and Land Trust member, Susan Barlow, will lead the walk and provide commentary on Mr. Olmsted and his passion for parks and healthful open spaces for the public. Mr. Olmsted, founder of American landscape architecture, designed the grounds at Biltmore, the nation’s capital, and, with Calvert Vaux, New York’s Central Park. He was instrumental in the preservation of Yosemite and Niagara Falls. Extreme weather cancels; check this website if weather is iffy. https://www.manchesterlandtrust.org/events.html
