The Manchester Public Library is pleased to host Stephen T. Penny, Manchester Historical Society Board Member, for “The Podunks at Manchester” on Thursday, November 2, 2023 at 6:30 p.m. at the Whiton Branch Library on 100 North Main Street.
Prior to European colonization, the Podunks lived in the area of Manchester and surrounding towns. Learn the history, culture, and more of this indigenous tribe, including where they came from and when, who the neighboring tribes were and their relationships, how they lived both before and after their contact with the Europeans, their food, shelter, clothing, health, and commercial trades, and why they disappeared from the scene. Penny, who has spent years researching and uncovering the stories of the indigenous people who lived in this area, is also a local attorney, former Mayor of Manchester, the Manchester Road Race announcer for 34 years, and a recipient of the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce 2018 Community Service Award.
